5 Mistakes to Avoid

Digital marketing doesn’t require big budgets to succeed, it does help to have one but yes! Believe it or not, you can reach very good results with small to no budget situations. In fact, you might save yourself a good amount of confusion and stress by not starting with one, at least until you’ve learnt what you’d be paying for.

#1: Know your audience

This is a big one and the best approach is asking yourself questions like:

  • Who am I trying to reach?
  • Where can I find them?
  • When is the best time to reach out to them?
  • Do they fit particular Psychographics?

Know who your target clients are and where to find them, which platforms they spend most of their time on, what are their interests… it’s not that the quality of your product doesn’t matter, it’s just that advertising your good product to the wrong people or in the wrong place is a waste of your time, energy and money. Once you understand your audience or target clients you’ve made half the marketing journey. So start there.

#2: Make each post count

This is perhaps the most ignored and yet the most impactful of them all. Make sure each post delivers value to your audience; do your due diligence on the topic before you post it. On a social media platforms; it’s not wrong to entertain your audience but again, quality shouldn’t be compromised, both in terms of value or the aesthetics. This is what will keep them coming back for more.

#3: Use one platform

This one is simple, start with one, once you’ve mastered it move to the next one, don’t start with all of them at once. That’s it. No negotiations.

#4: Keep it simple

Your website visitors don’t need to do mental maths to find where the buttons are or to understand those particular titles placed in letters only robots can read. Is life not complicated enough? Plus, your competitors are just a google search away. Your design doesn’t have to be boring but it definitely doesn’t need to be complicated. A friendly user interface will let people know where to find what, and fast!

Also, while you’re at it, please do us a favor and make sure the information on there is up to date. There is nothing that will literally chase your visitors away like outdated information.

#5: Keep it consistent

Divide your content into bits and strategically spread them over a timeline instead of just throwing them out there whenever inspiration hits. Do you have brand colors? Keep your artworks consistent with those color palettes. Do you have a specific style of communication? Keep to it! In other words, build your brand Identity and stick to it. This allows your audience to keep seeing you and your product in a consistent manner with a consistent message. And that’s how you’ll stand out of the digital noise.

Everyday, we are constantly bombarded with digital information, ranging from companies competing for our attention to our friends posting their latest jokes or new arrival to their house hold. Add inconsistency to the mix and your brand’s online presence will sink to the bottom of all that.
